AGENCY: FG Creative Services & Wizdom Media

BACKGROUND: Wizdom Media is a full-service graphic design agency, founded in New York City. Servicing clients of all sizes from a wide variety of industries, Wizdom Media specializes in print, digital, and event design.

CHALLENGE: Create a new website that represents the Wizdom Media aesthetic; gritty NYC, film noir, ooky spooky, and of course a love of black, while also portraying themselves as modern and high-tech.

PROCESS: Wizdom Media wanted their website to represent their NYC presence. Rather than sourcing stock photography, I instead grabbed my camera and went on a journey through their neighborhood, 14th Street, eventually venturing into their subway station. Over time the creative direction settled on a black & white “film noir” lighting style with layered photoshop effects, and thin white line work for the interface.

RESULTS: The founders loved the direction of the website mockups so much that I was hired as a full time employee.

EPILOGUE: Once I was on-board as a full time employee, the website grew, morphed, was revised numerous times, and expanded to include complex text animations introducing each section of the site. New technologies at the time, such as Flash™ video, were explored, along with embedded audio. These elements are very standard today but back when this site was developed, everything had to be coded from scratch.

Once completed, this website was in place for many years. There is a timeless quality to the design. I loved this website then, and still love it today.
